From Notebook to Reproducible Workflow

Many Data Hub workflows may start as exploratory notebooks or scripts.

A notebook can be used to test data access, inspect metadata, generate maps, analyse time series, validate outputs or prototype an algorithm. When the method becomes repeatable, it can be documented, shared and eventually packaged as a reproducible workflow or digital application.

Typical path

A workflow may evolve through the following steps:

  1. Explore data through the catalogue or STAC API.
  2. Open selected datasets in a notebook or QGIS environment.
  3. Develop and test the analysis method.
  4. Document inputs, parameters and outputs.
  5. Validate results with representative data.
  6. Package the workflow for repeatable execution.
  7. Share the method, notebook or application with other users.

Typical NOSTRADAMUS examples

This approach can support workflows related to:

  • agricultural data cube preparation;
  • vegetation and drought indicators;
  • crop monitoring and yield-related analysis;
  • soil fertility and crop nutrition workflows;
  • pest management indicators;
  • integration of EO, IoT and local demonstration-site data;
  • policy and farm decision-support applications.

This topic will be expanded with examples as notebooks and application templates become available.
